Hello everybody,
Lots of things beginning (& restarting). Studies in two majors, couple of other courses and a few projects just to begin with. But I’ve been very happy. Although my schedule is tightening again, everything seems to be interesting or valuable some how.
But – because my eyes have turned to look into the horizon, everything happened during August seems already quite distant. I’ve been quite occupied lately. Beginning or finishing things are those moments, when you need to give a little bit of extra time and effort to it. So when there’s many of these happening simultaneously you can imagine what happens. But at least I feel very much alive (after my slooww summer).

One of the coolest things in August was Kraftwerk. They had a concert in Flow Festival, and I just loved it! It’s bizarre, because I don’t usually like a) electronic music that much b) the way electronic artist perform with laptops, machines and no live instruments – but I can honestly say that this was (again, with July’s Erykah Badu @ Pori Jazz Festival) one of my personal top 10 concerts ever.
I’ve been listening to Kraftwerk already before, but I never really understood it. But with all the visuals, the minimalistic performance and the industrial ambience their esthetic of music some how crystallized to me. It was absolutely amazing! I guess this is a true consequence of my SOE. Nice.
The End of SOE
Summer turning into fall means that my Summer Of Esthetic is also coming to its end. I’m sad, yet I feel refreshed! What comes to my upcoming late’09, it’s going to be a very intense four-month period in Helsinki studying, learning, working my ass off and just keeping the pace. And I very much look forward to it!
So what I’m going to be up to? Since most things are just beginning and there’s not much to write about, I’ll show you something and tell you a little secret. :)
A good friend of mine, Sara Pihlaja, is a photographer. She did a journey to South Korea with her school to take photos about climate change. Finnish magazine Suomen Kuvalehti published their report and photos, and also short videos/collages on their website. The students had also a kick-ass art gallery exhibition in Helsinki called “Kuumaa kuumaa polttaa polttaa Korea Korea” (”Hot hot burns burns Korea Korea”). And now we have decided with Sara to do a music video during this autumn using her method of taking thousands of single photos. So… before we’ll be finished with out collaboration, check out Sara’s video Virta (Flow). It’s beautiful.
I guess it’s all for now.
Getting all motivated & inspired.
Lots of good autumnly vibes to you all.
/Anni.

Photographer Sara Pihaja: “I was interested in flow of traffic and people. I wanted to pic young people passing by and stop them for a while. Young people because it’s their future that climate change is effecting. That’s us.”
P.s. Oh and I’ve been thinking. Updating my blog once a month feels a bit sticky and I guess it’s also a bit heavy to read all that stuff in a single page… So I might change it. We’ll see about that. At least there’s muuuuch more things happening now when summer laziness is over and autumnly schedules are back.
